MANDATE
Modernizing approvals
through shared infrastructure.
One Ontario, a non-profit organization founded by AECO Innovation Lab, brings together government, industry, academia, and technology partners around a shared vision for modern development approvals.
We are committed to improving housing delivery across Ontario by promoting greater transparency, efficiency, and coordination throughout the approval process.
Through collaboration, research, and AI-enabled infrastructure, we aim to create a more connected approvals ecosystem that benefits governments, industry, and communities alike.
One Ontario is dedicated to addressing systemic inefficiencies within the development approval framework.
Ontario does not need hundreds of disconnected permitting systems, e-checkers and submission portals across Ontario all trying to solve the same problems, but that don’t talk to each other, causing increasing fragmentation.
By leveraging advanced technologies, evidence-based research, and strategic partnerships, One Ontario advocates for one shared infrastructure that can improve application quality, reduce duplication, and support more efficient approvals.
Key Mandates
Government Collaboration
Serve as a collaborative partner to all levels of government—federal, provincial, regional, and municipal—to help shape modern, AI-enabled approaches to development approvals. We support policies and standards that encourage shared infrastructure, interoperability, and more coordinated approval processes across jurisdictions.
Industry Engagement
Establish and sustain partnerships with organizations across the development ecosystem, including builders, planners, technology providers, and industry associations. We advocate for common infrastructure and streamlined workflows that reduce duplication and create more equitable development opportunities.
Academic Integration
Collaborate with academic institutions to translate research into practical frameworks that improve development approvals and housing delivery. We help bridge the gap between emerging technologies and real-world implementation through applied research and cross-sector collaboration.
Public Empowerment and Advocacy
Promote transparency, accessibility, and informed participation in the development process. We simplify complex planning and regulatory information while advocating for more open and equitable access to information that helps communities participate in housing and development decisions.
Operational Strategies
One Ontario remains committed to helping shape the future of development approvals.
By advocating for evidence-based policy, shared infrastructure, and collaborative innovation, we seek to help Ontario move beyond fragmented systems and toward a more coordinated, AI-enabled approvals ecosystem that supports housing delivery across the province.
